John & Em's Great Adventure

As many of you know, my FIANCE asked me to marry him on June 1 on top of Sandia Peak in Albuquerque, New Mexico. What an amazing surprise! We had spent 2 weeks together while I finished my last 2 weeks of my first year of teaching in Roma, Texas, and drove to Albuquerque to spend a week there with his Grandma & family before heading to California to hike the John Muir Trail. I was already on cloud nine to be in one of John's favorite places in the world with his family, and then on the first he took me up the mountain and got down on one knee. He blows me away every day and our love grows ever stronger, but man, he really nailed that one!

The following Saturday, June 6, we drove to Lone Pine, California. This is the town where Whitney Portal is located and where the John Muir Trail ends. We left our car at Whitney Portal and hired a shuttle service to drop us off in Yosemite Valley, where we began our first thru hike: 221 miles, scheduled for 21 days (ended up being more like 18!). We finished the hike before noon on June 25, and returned to Albuquerque to see family again.

Along the way, we goofed off, laughed a lot, and of course completed many miles of hiking. We stopped for 2 resupply points at Reds Meadow and Vermillion Valley Resort, and we carried all of our food, water, and hiking/camping essentials with us the whole way. We saw a new part of God's beautiful creation that truly still takes our breath away, and we enjoyed every second together. We are blessed to have the time this summer for this journey and we made many, many memories that will last a lifetime.

Now, we wish to share some of those memories with you! We kept a trail journal along the way, and I will be typing up those journal entries for those of you who wish to hear the ins & outs of life on the trail. Family and friends, we love you all and thank you for your prayers and support while we were gone and throughout our engagement- and we can't wait to see you soon.

Love,
John & Em
